OUR PASTOR

Rev. Andreas R. Price

Rev. Andreas R. Price is a native of Kentucky and was raised right here in the city of Louisville.  He is the youngest of three children born to Dr. Charles E. Price and the late Mrs. Nancy Price.  He attended Jefferson County Public Schools, and is a graduate of Shawnee High School.  After graduating from the University of Louisville in 1987, Rev. Price spent 16 years in the banking, finance, and investments fields.

He was licensed to preach in 1989 at Joshua Tabernacle Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Pastor Emeritus Rev. Dr. J. L. Snardon.  In 1995, Rev. Price received a Bachelor of Theology Degree from Simmons Bible College and was ordained at Joshua Tabernacle that same year.  He has continued to follow God’s call to pursue full-time ministry, leaving corporate America to attend seminary and received his Master of Divinity degree from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2008.  While in seminary, Rev. Price was elected to serve as Co-convener of the Black Student Caucus, and was involved in several other seminary activities and initiatives.

Along with his service to Oakland, Rev. Price also serves as a staff chaplain with Christian Care Communities – the largest faith-based non-profit organization in the state of Kentucky focused on care and housing for seniors.  He was the first African American to become a chaplain for Christian Care in the 130-plus year history of the company.

One of the most inspiring things to know about Rev. Price – and one of the life experiences that has helped form his faith and carve out his character – is that he is a two-time kidney transplant recipient, having dealt with total kidney failure since the age of 15.  He has been actively involved with both the local Organ Donor Affiliate and with the National Kidney Foundation, and has had the opportunity to help educate various communities about the viability of organ and tissue donation.  He has traveled throughout the state of Ky. and to various parts of the United States on behalf of these organizations, and has been a featured speaker at various conferences and events – including spending time on Capitol Hill speaking with members of Congress and their staffs regarding issues related to kidney disease.

Rev. Price is also a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and has served on various committees and in various capacities.  He is currently heading up Theta Omega chapter’s QUES 4 Christ ministry initiative.

He has received numerous community recognitions and awards, including being named the 2014 Omega Psi Phi Fraternity 5th District Citizen of the Year, and the 2013 Theta Omega chapter Citizen of the Year.  In 2011, Rev. Price received the 2011  Outstanding Service award for Spiritual Care from LeadingAge Kentucky. He is also the recipient of the Robert C. Burks Special Christian Care award and the Robert C. Burks Spirit of Determination award, and has been recognized as a YMCA Adult Black Achiever, and has also been named a Kentucky Colonel.

The most important thing in his life is that Rev. Price boldly proclaims that he is GOD’S CHILD AND GOD’S SERVANT!!!

OUR CHURCH

The Origin of Our Name

Mrs. Hattie Speed of the Speed Museum donated the corner stone. The forefathers of our church, observing two stones on the property that bore the word “Oakland,” deemed them a favorable omen and chose to name the building known today as the Oakland Missionary Baptist Church.

The Oakland Church stands as a beacon of light in the community called Bingham and in the Louisville community.
